the Stones weren't exactly at their best during this period, and the film plays pretty long. That said, it's worth a watch for the eclectic set list.

Wonderful review of all the old and upcoming hits of the day. A record breaking 1981 U.S. tour set in Arizona. Features 25 classic rock songs. Hal Ashby used 20 cameras and the latest (at that time) 24 track stereo. It was directed by [legendary] Hal Ashby, and released to cinemas in 1983. The movie sprinkles in old black n white footage of performances by the band only briefly and occasionally, but never gets away from whats being played onstage. My main problem with this concert is the huge stage and seemingly uninvolved (or is it disinterested) band memebers other than crazy man Mick Jagger. He works up a sweat more than all the other band people involved. But thats the general way of the Stones... Mick sweats onstage and everyone else does not. Charlie Watts has a bald spot even in 1981! [img]http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8381/8605071970_d013b66f5b.jpg[/img] Mick wears an American football uniform most of the show Lots of cigarette smoking too by Keith Richards who lights up a new one constantly. The venues are PACKED. I mean, like thousands on thousands of people, some seem like miles away from the stage too. But not us. We are afforded great seats, with camera shots on stage almost always. The band doesn't play only their songs, but old tunes such as Going to A Go-Go. A wonderful retrospective for a band that has lasted 5 decades and still producing. There are other venues included on this tour as well, but most seem to come from Arizona. This performance is NOT like the much later ones like Steel Wheels Tour. There are NO inflatable dogs or honkey tonk women, gimmicks like factory settings and the like. This is just a big, really big stage in pastel colors. Some critics were disappointed such as Roger Ebert who wrote that Let's Spend the Night Together is "essentially a concert film - a film recording an ideal Rolling Stones concert, put together out of footage shot at several outdoor and indoor Stones concerts. If that's what you want, enjoy this movie. I wanted more." NOTES: 1 It was filmed at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey (5-6 November 1981) and THIS one at the Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona (13 December 1981). If you are a true LIVE Stones fan, you will adore this. running time: 93 minutes" IMBD NOTES about the film: 1 Let's Spend the Night Together is a live concert film, documenting The Rolling Stones' 1981 North American Tour. It was directed by Hal Ashby, and released to cinemas in 1982, then subsequently released on VHS. 2 The film was released as "Rocks Off" Germany with slightly different footage and the additional song "When the Whip Comes Down" 3 The best footage was captured at the Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona where Ashby ended up directing from a gurney while hooked up to an IV [introvenious injection] (there are conflicting reports of whether Ashby had almost overdosed from partying too hard or if he had suffered a minor heart attack). For this particular concert Ashby had a twenty camera set-up. 4 Keith Richards got so annoyed at one point that he almost started a fistfight with one of the cinematographers. 5 Unfortunately, Let's Spend the Night Together was not a box office success and concert films have consistently proven to be unlikely box office hits with the occasional rare exception like Woodstock.
