Plot summary

Classy, refined romance in provincial town where everyone

Classy, refined romance in provincial town where everyone knows everyone else's secrets between playboy army lieutenant Gerard Philipe and scrupulous socialite milliner Michele Morgan. To his surprise he finds love for the first time, but obstacles to happiness include the pesky gossip grapevine and the fact that he began his courtship as a bet with his fellow soldiers. Impeccable script and great cast, including young doe-eyed Brigitte Bardot as a photographer's daughter dating Philipe's best friend, and the ending will surely tug at your heartstrings.

Cela vient de la performance du realisateur d'abord, des acteurs ensuite, et de toute la direction artistique. Un beau film, qui contourne l'ecueil quasi incontournable de la niaiserie, et ne tombe pas non plus dans le melo.
