Plot summary

A vicious beaver blankets the jungle with a dangerous pink substance that explodes when coming into contact with water. With the rainy season approaching, the miscellaneous team of animals must hurry to find the antidote.

The legendary "Jungle Bunch" are just looking to

The legendary "Jungle Bunch" are just looking to settle down to a peaceful life when they emerge from their cave one morning to a forest covered in a purple powder. Harmless unless you get taken short, then - well you'll get a bit more immediate relief than you bargained for! With the storm season approaching, it falls to the gang to figure out just who is responsible for this plague and to thwart that plan before the jungle is reduced to splinters and ashes. What now ensues is hardly original, but it's still quite a fun, escapade-driven, adventure story with loads of different scenarios for the various characters to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat from. It's no better or worse than the routine Pixar and Dreamworks fayre that animates a colourful leafy environment and enlivens just about every beastie from a frog to an evil beaver, with some light comedy along the way. There are a couple of entertaining double acts, some gravity-defying wooden bombers and loads of fun pyrotechnics as the quest takes them through perils and pitfalls alike. Not great, nor especially memorable, but it passes ninety minutes easily enough - and that fish in it's bowl packs quite a punch!

not Disney, but good for older kids

What do I mean by "not Disney"? Well, if you're looking for cute and cuddly animals, this is not the movie for you. None of these match that description.

However, if you want something with science and adventure, and are willing to accept these fairly ugly animals as they are, then welcome to this world!

I rather enjoyed the mystery of trying to track down a missing scientist. The Jungle Aces reasoned that he would be able to design an antidote to the dangerous pink foam, as he had been the one who originally created it.

My favorite character was the scientist's daughter, Camellia, now grown, and with a wooden prosthetic hand. That was from a childhood accident in her father's lab, and the reason the scientist had left.

Together with the Jungle Aces, she helps them decipher codes that lead to the scientist. Here's the tricky part: he is older and has dementia. The bunch then had to hope he could still be helpful.

I enjoyed it, and I think my middle-school aged nieces and nephews will, too.
