Plot summary

Lena, a troubled youth takes a white lion cub under her wing; little does she know the lion escaped from criminals intended to take the cub to an evil trophy hunter named Ben Percy.

Do Kids Really Act This Way?

Mom is gone to no one knows where, leaving just father Michael Perl, daughter Melissa Collazo, and your dog. They're new in town, she's got a stammer under stress, she makes found art, and all the kids are mean to her, except one. They she finds a white lion cub and tells no one but the dog.There seems to be some family-friendly movies in the past decade or so that remind me of the Scholastic Books offering when I was a youngster. The issue is that there's no real sense that any of this is odd: unusual, yes. No one things it's commonplace to find a white lion cub in an American swamp, but there's a sense that these things happen often enough they are largely a matter of not letting the adults know. It's not offered as fantasy. It's offered as the way things are, and I find it bizarre and creepy.
