Very well done and impressively restored. A simple

Very well done and impressively restored. A simple story. During the occupation of France by the Nazis his Jewish parents send their young son to live in the countryside with the relatives of a friend, the boy pretending to be a young Catholic. The old man is an antisemite, although otherwise not a bad person. They all survive. It doesn’t appear that the true identity of the boy was ever revealed. We don’t witness any atrocities from either side. During the celebration of the liberation a young woman who obviously was in a relationship with a German has her hair shaved, but she is allowed to care for her baby. Worse things happened elsewhere. Acting is convincing and that includes a scene involving farm animals. On Cohen, appropriately. My grandfather was like the old man. Thankfully, he was dead when I analyzed my DNA and learned that I am 8% Jew.

NYT 1000 list. It was a beautiful ironic

NYT 1000 list. It was a beautiful ironic tale about overcoming prejudice with a young boy being sent to rural France during WW2 and being taken care of by his grandparents. I enjoyed the movie and its message. SLC DVD.

This film is mostly cozy and funny for the setting. War deployment Jew kids story could be poor, painful and miserable, but this is not. Considering the release year 1968, this look so old/authentic.
