Plot summary

When successful 80s nightclub manager Tony Towers boards a magical train at Christmas, he discovers that each carriage harbours a different stage of his life and the actions he takes in one carriage directly affect his life in the next. Can Tony change his life – and the lives of the people he loves – for the better, or will he just make things worse?

Not sure how something can be both dull

Not sure how something can be both dull & miserable at the same time. Think Schindlers List would make me feel more festive. Made me want to jump in front of a train. Sheen's eyebrows are on fleek though.

I’m a fan of actress Nathalie Emmanuel and I’ve enjoyed watching Michael Sheen in a couple of films, so when I saw this available to watch I decided to check it during the holiday season. 1985, 4 decades backwards and 3 decades forwards. Tony Towers is a pop icon, middle-aged yet draws money and people out to fan his white-hot success during the Christmas season with a great job, a fiancé, and a brother that he’s happy to hang around. But something happens on a train ride when he moves forward or behind the train’s cars. He jumps a decade forward or a decade backward and begins to realize the way he’s living his life affects his present or future in a way that is either damaging or beneficial. At first, he uses it to make sure he doesn’t end up a failure selfishly but then he realizes some of his successes affect those negatively, so he goes backward to fix the source of the problem. It becomes a journey of not just self-realization but of those that he cares for from his brother, his fiancé, his children and wife from his failed marriage. With the result, a glorious miracle. I figured this for a typical holiday film, but in the end, I was blown away by how beautiful a story this turned out. I would call this a mix of It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol, Family Man, and the Butterfly Effect. An incredible story of a man with big dreams but feeling empty, yet in the end has the power to change not only his life for the better, but for those he loves most. A nice surprise.

I've been wanting to see this film for

I've been wanting to see this film for a long time and only now have a sky tv package which let me watch it. Definitely worth the wait. It's definitely not a typical Christmas movie. Michael Sheen is epic in it and I went through every emotion watching it. I love this type of sci fi genre and the attention to detail was fantastic. The supporting cast were faultless and it's the best Christmas film I've seen in a long time. Loved it
