Plot summary

Three well-off young men—former students at Rome’s prestigious all-boys Catholic high school San Leone Magno—brutally tortured, raped, and murdered two young women in 1975. The event, which came to be known as the Circeo massacre, shocked and captivated the country, exposing the violence and dark underbelly of the upper middle class at a moment when the traditional structures of family and religion were seen as under threat.

This is without a doubt a very raw

This is without a doubt a very raw look at a horrendous murder case in Italy. As an American, we are not exposed to films as gritty as this. The true story is both shocking and vile, yet the actors are so brilliant in their portrayals as both victims and perpetrators. The poor reviews on here are from Americans who simply cant appreciate acting in its rawest form.

This is by all accounts a terrible film

This is by all accounts a terrible film. Its absurd attempt to tell the story backwards is utterly bewildering and adds nothing. We are not introduced to the characters or their motivations and the principle character has nothing to do with the main story. It is episodic, giving vignettes of different characters who have nothing to do with the central story. The characters are thin and their motivations completely unexplored. An hour and three quarters of my life I will never get back.

This is one of those films I keep

This is one of those films I keep coming back to. At the centre is the concept of toxic masculinity, but not as a trait on its own, but rather how a society endorsing more deviation from "normal" behaviour tends to allow for more variation at the extreme ends of society. It's not about the crime at the centre, but about how little slippages in morality almost inevitably results in actions of this level of atrocity. A brilliant mirror to our communities and what we allow.
