Atmosphere/setting is good and actors are ok. That’s about the extent of its goodness though. Story is predictable and you don’t get invested in the characters. Skip it unless you are really desperate for witchcraft movies.

This is a brutal film. It was hard

This is a brutal film. It was hard to watch at points and I loved it for that! The story was fairly predictable but they don’t force it upon you so I didn’t mind. It is very well made but feels unoriginal. It is slow but brooding if you like that kind of thing. The whole rainy day sequence just looked like a sunny day with someone spraying water at them. I really wanted to like this but so much makes this adequate for a once off viewing, my patience for excitement died off in the climax which was just meh. It’s not a good film but also it’s not a bad film, just forgettable fodder. It reminded me of Hereditary (2018) but without the fantastic second half, this started with promise and degraded into eye rolling predictability. Overall I was disappointed but it’s definitely not a bad film. I think the core problem is that the cast, characters and their decisions are difficult to engage with and there is a distinct lack of anything memorable.
