Plot summary

The upcoming installment's story takes place amidst signs of postwar reconstruction in the winter of 2028. Tensions are rising in New Port City as demonstrations are held concerning the interests of foreign cartels. This leads to a shooting incident involving riot police. It all started with a cyberbrain infection released by the terrorist "Fire Starter." An independent offensive unit led by Makoto Kusanagi entrusts the suppression of the situation to their ghosts and aims for their own justice. Below the surface of the incident, lies the "tin girl" Emma and the "scarecrow man" Burinda Junior. As Kusanagi deals with the incident, she draws near to what those two ghosts were seeking.

Another subpar episode finds the new team going

Another subpar episode finds the new team going up against a weird threat that doesn't explain things very well. It has some striking imagery, but the action doesn't pay off and the story is weird.

There's nothing like a good cyber brain story

There's nothing like a good cyber brain story and Kazuchika Kise conjures one up in Ghost in the Shell Arise: Border 4 - Ghost Stands Alone. Astoundingly, a lot is packed into 50+ minutes of story time. Very technical in nature, the plot details do require attention to grasp, and maybe even multiple viewings to get the most out of it; however, throwing all the technological aspects aside, this film still makes for a great watch. There isn't much to argue when it comes to Japanese animation and there is no exception here. The character designs and the settings come together for some great eye candy. The action follows in the visual's footsteps. The voice work is up to par with the visuals. Maaya Sakamoto's portrayal of Motoko Kusanagi hits the spot. The same can be said for the rest of the cast as well. Ghost in the Shell Arise: Border 4 - Ghost Stands Alone takes effort to comprehend, but that doesn't deter a viewing.
