Plot summary

Businessmen arrange the early release from prison of Togawa, serving time for taking revenge on the truck driver whose carelessness confined Togawa's sister, Rie, to a wheelchair. They want Togawa to hijack an armored truck loaded with 120 million yen; their leverage is to promise him money for surgery for Rie. Togawa consents and plans the heist with three others. The plan is solid, but it doesn't go smoothly. Togawa must improvise, there are traitors somewhere, and double-crosses mount. Can Togawa escape with enough money to help his sister and ensure a passage out of Japan?

Great vehicle for the genre in part of

Great vehicle for the genre in part of a recent reconnaissance all thanks to the family at the Criterion Collection. They've put up this+ I Am Waiting, Rusty Knife, Take Aim at the Police Van, and A Colt Is My Passport. Each carry one another through a catalog of wonder. A few in the series like this film, have cringeworthy portions that I must mention demeaning women but, if looked at are a testimonial look at how the male gaze was a bit… James Bond at the time? Men who have the look and women over the top and there to raise bell. Overall as older flix have their dusty perception vs. current day this story in an odd way in this must-see with the others mentioned in tow. ‼️Sidebar re: Joe Shishido (in this and all films in/ around the killer new wave era he was in) can someone PLEASE tell me what sunglasses brand he rocked??? I cannot for the life of me find a concrete answer to this!

A pulpy, culty botched-heist feature that plays like a hybrid of 1960’s noir and a “heroic bloodshed” style Hong Kong movie. The film takes inspiration from the meticulously plotted racetrack heist of Kubrick’s 1956 “The Killing” in its first half, then descends into a series of betrayals and shootouts. Overall, short on brains but long on style and action. Bonus points for being the first heist movie where a box truck is used to capture an armored car.
