*Karada Sagashi: The Last Night* expands the supernatural survival story with solid technical execution and a more focused nighttime setting, making it an accessible continuation of the original film. However, underdeveloped characters, predictable storytelling, and the missed opportunity to deepen the curse's mystery prevent the sequel from matching the emotional and narrative impact of its predecessor. I'm a Canadian living and working in Japan

I'm a Canadian living and working in Japan for many years. At first, I only went to English-language movies. Then when my daughter was a child, there was no choice but to go to Japanese-dubbed Disney movies. Now I got to as many Japanese-language movies in the cinema as English. I say all that to say this. The more simple a Japanese movie is, the easier it is for me to follow and enjoy (meaning my Japanese friends often don't agree with my taste). I had a GREAT TIME with this film. It was a total blast. I went to see it a second time. To me it was a Japanese version of whichever Final Destination revolved around a theme park, but far weirder with an afterlife (question) subplot. I went for Kanna Hashimoto, but as she was mostly sidelined, I stayed for Seira Anzai.

I didn't expect that.

Honestly, I was so shocked by the second volume: the horror and romance were much better done, the story wasn't exceptional but it was well executed... However, the new characters were better than the old ones. I couldn't remember their names, but I managed to connect with all but one (so there were four new students). If you were really disappointed, go read the manga; it's much better and something else entirely.
