All of you people, arguing about how one is a copy or influenced by the other, the only thing you achieved to convey your own inner envy that there is no other weapon like the AK-47. Nor the STG-44 (who was failed and underperformed weapon), nor the M-16 or Ar-15 (which doen't cope well with damp ad lack of maintenance) or H&K G-36 (which soon GGermany won't be capable to produce due to her incoming de-industrialization) can't even begin to compare to the Kalash, "simple and reliable as single shot".
The concept was definitely influenced by the MP43/STG, which was revolutionary. Intermediate round based on existing calibre. Large replaceable magazine. Shorter overall length. Look and feel - the origin of the 'assault rifle'. The workings are very different though. The STG is more akin the H&K rifles, with a roller locking bolt, whereas an AK pattern rifle has a rotating bolt. Interestingly, it was the Russians' policy of equipping companies with semi automatic rifles or sub-machine guns which prompted the MP43's development in the first place and development came full circle when the AK-47 was introduced.
@Eratosekol, you should first see both constructions and stop copy false myths. Stg 44 and AK47 are significantly different, AK operation is completly different. Just watch some commparasion video on youtube. 8/10 movie, nice to watch, but my feeligs are like it is more like fairy tate, than real story.
People saying the AK is a copy of the sturmgewehr should go have a look at their inner workings. They are nothing alike. If anything, the AR is more similar (spring loaded dust cover, buffer in the stock, etc).

Kalashnikov's AK-47 is the most dependable weapon in the entire world, works in any climate, environment even underwater. No other rifle has kept it's use and popularity since it's original design in the 1940's.
