Plot summary

A special agent is assigned to protect a wealthy business magnate. However, when the businessman is kidnapped in a daring ambush, he teams up with a seasoned detective to crack the case. But soon he discovers the case isn't that simple.

First time I've seen Jackie Chan in a

First time I've seen Jackie Chan in a non-Western film. Conclusion? Need to watch more of those! 'Crime Story' is an entertaining 107 or so minutes, as I had a feeling it would be in truth - Chan is usually a fun watch, after all. Admittedly, this 1993 release is more drama than comedy, which is obviously fitting given it's based upon a real life incident. The fight/stunt scenes are naturally the film's major selling point, but I also enjoyed those onscreen and the score - which comes strong at the end and across the subsequent credits. Chan is good value throughout, though I also rate Kent Cheng's performance in this too - he suited his character well. Lastly, a little tid-bit about this flick that I found interesting: Some of the climax was shot at the (then deserted, obvs) Kowloon Walled City, prior to its demolition.

Deviation from Police Story.

Crime story is another deviation from the original Police Story film series. Based on a true story the film is about the kidnaping of a millionaire. It was supposed to be darker with lot of inner conflicts in the protagonist's mind, but it was toned down by Jackie. Personally, I felt this was a wrong decision by Jackie. He missed a chance to showcase his acting abilities along with the already established martial arts talents.
