Plot summary

Harold, a professional gambler, and his girlfriend Bonita, a lounge singer, follow Willie, a young blackjack dealer, around the western U.S. Harold has a jinx on Willie and can't lose with him. Bonita and Willie meet and fall for each other and plot to do away with Harold and collect on his life insurance.

I LIKED IT - SHE's funny he's gorgeous

I LIKED IT - SHE's funny he's gorgeous I was laughing so hard- it's silly - I could totally relate to all of it except lounge singer job but the shenanigans and w younger guy Ken Wahl not too many women WOULDN'T drop everything for that hunk but I was told I'm 2 inches taller than him ... Just think if he was 6'2 built like THAT - damn but shorter than me - buzzkill But As far as movie I lived it one of my fav scene's (besides Ken in a towel that's a given) is Bette M following Harold's letters especially the one to the ‘painted lady' -hooker in the window exchanging Harold's fetishes preferences ( ‘Did he have you dress up in a baby doll outfit and a wig they start laughing She agrees that he had her do the same thing and then she goes well guess he's DEAD And start laughing hysterically you'd have to see it... Although I thought that Midler was gonna have a heart attack in that movie only at the end she was relaxed she's running away with Ken... it was cute movie and he was gorgeous

Bette Midler is the star of this dreadful

Bette Midler is the star of this dreadful fluff and if it wasn’t for her, no one would be watching. There’s no reason to! The plot has more loose threads than my winter coat and is populated by threadbare characters who look like they’ve wandered in front of the camera while looking for the snacks table. The film is purely a vehicle for Bette Middler, the comedienne with a brassy voice and she is a good one but even her talents aren’t brassy enough to overcome a script that founders halfway through. There are two astounding absences in this film other than the acting and the plot. Number one: the lack of cinematic imagination – dismal photography – not one scintillating shot in the whole flick. The other absence, or perhaps I should say abcess is the abject lack of moral tone. The movie is based on the vice of gambling as if it were normal as a lifestyle and murder, alcoholism, adultery and violence are just good clean fun. By extrapolation then, movie-making must be considered a sin.
