Why does the documentary maker insert himself so prevalently into it? What is with the cartoons? The footage they had was good and I’m sure there is more with tons of potential. I don’t know what I just watched that took 2 hours that had glimpses of greatness. From the footage. The editing was bad. That style can work with some documentaries, tying stories together. This is a story about an all time NBA icon, with hours of interviews with him and other nba greats and stars. Read the room. That’s the story the audience wants.

Great potential not entirely realized. I was hopeful

Great potential not entirely realized. I was hopeful that this documentary would not follow the stereotypical path given that it was the director’s first attempt. Unfortunately, the narrative followed the typical arc of retelling notable facts and sketching some inner details of The Logo Jerry West but failed to crack into anything especially illuminating - while also editing out key details like, just for example, why he led The Lakers, The Grizzlies, The Warriors, etc. the effusive praise of West by some of the greatest players also came across as performative even if West deserved the words. In fact. I’m not sure West would have wanted to listen to most of the interviews.
