Plot summary

Three French pals take to the road in a stolen car and discover a talking, wounded stork — who claims to have deserted the Algerian army — and help it to escape to the home of a relative in Germany.

A wonderfully weird tale that works on just

A wonderfully weird tale that works on just about every level with insatiably daring performances from its stunning three leads. The alienated central characters aren't the sort that many will be able to relate to, but 'Children of the Stork' is more voyeuristic than it is involving. Stylishly directed and edited, this bizarre film never bores.

This film was badly slated by the Guardian

This film was badly slated by the Guardian in the UK, quite unfairly in my opinion. It is an authentic and inspired attempt to illustrate some of the mentalities at large in Western Europe at the end of the cold war. The confinement, the fear and the absurdity of every day life, and the response of individuals and groups to this climate. Baader Meinhoff are not mentioned, but anyone who was awake at the time will recognise their desperate and spontaneous call to "freedom". This is also a film with an enormous sense of humour, and in my view was head and shoulders above the average cinema release of the time. Definitely worth watching more than once if you can find it.

I wish I could direct this film!

Really the script and the design of the film is very nice. Rona Hartner was an amazing actress. Romain Duris and Ouassini Embarek also performed very well. The film has a fascinating structure. Social messages were impressive. The film's comedy was successful. Best movie I've seen this year! It should definitely be monitored.
