During the last days of the Carlist wars

During the last days of the Carlist wars, a young girl survives a fire that killed her fellow orphans. A mysterious woman finds her and turns the waif into a vampire. One of the best character focused vampire stories, framing it as a coming of age tale with a character that doesn't age. Would, as the boys say, vampirism be an amazing experience ("Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire") or would it become a curse? Very much the latter for the undying adolescent played in a gentle melancholic manner by young actress Haizea Carneros. No jump scares here. This is sophisticated horror at its best, portraying eternal life as bleak and death as defining our lives. Also want to mention the lighting, which relies on natural sources such as campfires and candles with great effect. Highly recommended
