Plot summary

I'm so desperate to recommend decent family movies

I'm so desperate to recommend decent family movies that I sometimes bend over backwards to forgive the flaws and overlook the shortcomings. This is a movie impossible to dislike - it's got inspirational subject matter, appealing characters and generally agreeable performances (with the exception of possibly the worst-acted movie bully in recent movie history). By the same token, it is also quite bland, totally predictable and nothing memorable from a filmmaking perspective. I'm not saying every movie has to have Scorsese camera angles and Tarantino dialogue, But, come on, just one moment of something original or exciting that makes us sit up and take notice. I can't in good faith recommend this - but if you're looking for a family film you can enjoy with the kids and the grandparents, you could do worse. For me, however, this isn't cinema - it's a Sunday night presentation for the church youth group.

This movie told a wonderful story of male

This movie told a wonderful story of male friendship and is a good reminder that it's the struggles that create the beauty, miracles, and heroism that makes life worth living. It's a high school drama with quick pacing for plot exposition. I enjoyed the casting but at first I was a little incredulous because some of character development was rushed in the beginning but they were better fleshed out by the middle of the movie. Ultimately, I appreciated keeping things moving in the beginning and getting right to the relationship between the boys quickly. While I felt I might be in for a cheesy ride at the beginning I fortunately was surprised by the depth of the script by the end, and found I finished the film feeling moved, uplifted, and hopeful. The story is about mutual healing, friendship, and the many benefits of the restorative justice approach to crime.
