Plot summary

Ida Red may not survive her 20-year prison sentence for armed robbery. She turns to her son, Wyatt, for one last job and a chance to regain her freedom.

Format non particolarmente originale con due fratelli protagonisti

Format non particolarmente originale con due fratelli protagonisti tra cui il maggiore "pazzo" e il protagonista fratello minore, in equilibrio tra scaltrezza ed intelligenza in una famiglia dal contesto degradato che trasuda criminalità da tutti i pori. Funzionano i toni cupi e crudi della sceneggiatura, i dialoghi schietti e cattivi tengono alta l'attenzione e la presenza di ottimi attori aiuta lo spettatore a provare empatia per i protagonisti. Alcuni aspetti della trama non convincono del tutto; il rapporto familiare tra criminali e poliziotto lascia perplessi e alcune dinamiche che portano i protagonisti verso la tragica fine non convincono per la poca credibilità delle azioni che compiono i due fratelli, che pure non sono rappresentati come "stupidi" ma che si comportano da tali per quasi tutto il film. Finale che trova comunque un buon equilibrio poetico nell'ovvia quanto riuscita drammaticità.

Great performances by Hartnett, Grillo and Leo. It's a suspenseful script with good action and violence. Dysfunctional family ties. We really liked it.
