Bang, Bang, you're dead!

Eva Henning (Lora) shoots her husband Georg Rydeberg (Walter) and goes on the run. Meanwhile, her family and associated characters gather at the scene of the crime along with detective Sven Lindberg (Myrrman). As we follow Henning, the story develops in flashback sequences so that we understand who everyone is and what their association with Rydeberg is. Things are not what they seem.I got the main twist immediately! However, the film is different and the first half is interesting as we walk the streets with Henning and come across her interaction with prostitute Sif Ruud (Bojan). It is a shame that Ruud wasn't given a larger part. What adds to the novelty is listening to everything unfold in Swedish. It can be quite a humorous language to listen to. When I was a young boy, I remember watching an England v Sweden football match at a friend's house and we both collapsed in hysterics every time the commentator mentioned the name of the Swedish striker - Gronhagen.I have to admit to getting confused with all the talk of poison capsules and after an interesting first half, the film takes a different turn and plays out as a straightforward drawing room whodunnit where we watch a familiar resolution unfurl. Characters gather in a room whilst a policeman prepares to reveal the culprit. Shame.Listen out for "Shitsnak" - ha ha.

Gripping start and end, slight lull in the middle

"I Dimma Dold" aka "Hidden In The Fog" (1953) begins as a Hitchcockian thriller, develops into a "Laura" variation (it even name-drops the 1944 classic), and concludes as a traditional whodunit. Vic Suneson' script is clever, with a big twist in the middle, plus a smart final clue that points to the only possible murderer, Lars-Eric Kjellgren's direction is impeccably noirish, and the acting is good across the board, especially by Eva Henning and Georg Rydeberg. The film is more gripping during its first half and the prolonged finale; in the middle, it loses its momentum a little. **1/2 out of 4.

Incredible directing, incredible acting

This noir-style swedish crime drama is definitely a standout in the genre, and one made by a very competent and ever great director.

The script is wonderfully put together, very tightly paced, and features some great twists and turns. The actors all do an incredible job, as one would expect from such a great cast of iconic and well known names.

The cinematography is great, as is the cutting and editing. Very beautifully put together all around.

Overall, truly an incredible and ever suspenseful film that is very much recommended for any lover of film, and a great standout in the crime genre. Grear showcasing of Sweden's ability for great filmmaking.
