A lame attempt to recapture the elements that made The Blair Witch Project the success it was. This unoriginal movie (taking place in the woods with another witch as the source of the evil) had no real story and featured one-dimensional characters. Full of creepy elements but they were not enough to save this horrible effort. It was as though the filmmaker just wanted to throw in scary scenes without developing a story. This one really sets back the found footage genre, by its lack of originality, boring characters and predictable storyline.

The acting was laughable, the storyline loosely based on The Blair Witch Project but woefully underdeveloped, and the “special effects” on par with a high school production. I am sad I paid $2.99 to watch this, but even sadder that I’ll never get those 90 minutes of my life back. If you want a chuckle or two give it a go, but if you want a scary movie, look elsewhere.

Review: Horror in the Forest—A Cinematic Crime Against Humanity You know you’ve made a bad film when the most horrifying thing about your horror movie is the acting. Horror in the Forest isn’t just a blatant rip-off of The Blair Witch Project—it’s The Blair Witch Project if it had been made as a last-minute college assignment where the professor inexplicably inserted themselves into the cast rather than providing any meaningful critique. Which, given the sheer incompetence of the writing, camera work, and direction, is the only plausible explanation for how this film came to exist. Let’s start with the “acting.” And I use that word loosely, because what unfolds on screen is less a performance and more a hostage situation. Every single line delivery is stiffer than a corpse left in the woods for three days, and the relentless sobbing—oh, the sobbing!—is a masterclass in emotional bankruptcy. They cry, they wail, they break down… and yet, somehow, their faces remain drier than the Sahara. It’s like watching a high school drama class try to recreate Schindler’s List with a budget of $5 and a Groupon for community theater lessons. Then there’s the plot—or, more accurately, the lack of one. If you’ve seen The Blair Witch Project, you’ve already seen Horror in the Forest, except this time, the found footage style feels less like a creative choice and more like an attempt to hide the fact that the cinematographer was likely experiencing a seizure while filming. It’s a dizzying, incoherent mess, leading to what can only be described as the most insultingly lazy ending in horror history. And I’ve seen Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. But let’s not ignore the glowing online reviews. Five stars? Glowing praise? Either the director has a lot of very loyal friends, or the cast is trapped in some kind of Saw-esque scenario where they must sing the film’s praises or face unspeakable consequences. I genuinely hope it’s the latter, because at least then, Horror in the Forest will have provided some sense of fear and tension—albeit offscreen. If this film achieves anything, it’s making The Room look like The Shining. It is 90 minutes I will never get back, a tragic waste of time that has somehow managed to burn itself into my memory despite my desperate attempts to forget. If there’s any justice in this world, Horror in the Forest will be buried deep within the cinematic graveyard where it belongs, never to be unearthed again.
