Plot summary

Historias Lamentables (2020) is a 130-minute-long Spanish comedy

Historias Lamentables (2020) is a 130-minute-long Spanish comedy I saw on Prime in March 2026. This is four short films connected mostly by style and tempo and less so by story and plot (in fact, the story linkages are more like cameos). The humour for me is a brief pay after a lot of cringe, coincidence and incredulity. The cringe hinges on unlikeable characters and the people they take advantage of. The vibrant, clean and orderly settings and scenery is pleasant. I did enjoy Margarita and Bermejo. The plot pay-offs come from the ATM of convenience. Rewatch? Maybe. Recommend? Yes. 6/10.

It may very well be, Javier Fesser's best

It may very well be, Javier Fesser's best film. And that's saying a lot, after 2 masterpieces like "El Milagro de P. Tinto" and "Camino". This would be his "Pulp Fiction", rather than his "Wild Tales", mixed up with "Crash" (Paul Haggis, not Cronenberg's)... hilarious but also thought-provoking, never slows down beyond the time so you can take a breath, throughout 4 different stories that disect, razor-sharp, human condition.
