1st installment of Fruit Chan's 1997 Trilogy. It is very raw. Accurately reflects the atmosphere at the time in HK.

Of the late 20th century Hong Kong crime

Of the late 20th century Hong Kong crime dramas this one is one of the more compelling. Paired with an actually cohesive plot (not always present for this subgenre), some sore and tender moments, this is a hit in my book for the overall mood, and delivery of the events that take place in the story. A tale of caution, tragedy, and lost love for the young and troubled protagonist.

After reading all the reviews I was honestly

After reading all the reviews I was honestly excited to watch this movie and was let down. I get it's an low budget independent film but I feel like that's an excuse. Objectively it is a low quality film in terms of story and character development. The cinematography was pretty good and the filming locations definitely gave the crew an upper hand. I feel like shooting hong kong on film is always going to look cool and cinematic. So other than the cool filming locations and some cool outfits the characters wear it's not really worth watching. The characters and acting are super flat. Nobody really develops. spoiler alert everyone dies and nothing really is explained. Seems like they had some leftover film reels and wrote a script in a week then went out on the streets and filmed. Definitely not anywhere near the 80%-100% ratings that it receives. If you want to watch a Hong Kongese movie that's actually moving just watch a Wong Kar Wai movie and don't waste ur time with this budget reproduction.
