Plot summary

The evening before Christmas eve, Vilde is hanging out with her friends at the central station, when she learns that her mother has been in an accident. She is forced to contact her biological father, but wants to run away to Tokyo.

An outstanding family drama with spectacular color cinematography

An outstanding family drama with spectacular color cinematography. An adolescent girl lives in Oslo with her single mother, estranged from her biological father who has a different family. After an earthshaking event they all have to reconsider their mutual relationships. The girl, influenced by Japanese manga novels, wants to retreat to the trendy Tokyo neighborhood of the title. Is this her best option? A very humane movie, surprisingly directed by a man. On Viaplay.

WOW just wow

This film is a beautiful realistic depiction of one young woman's experience through some horrible events but it does not just sit in its sadness, it pushes forward like her and gives the viewer feelings hope and redemption. The directing is amazing but the performances are phenomenal and the lead is captivating. I'm in Ohio right now watching this film and I connect more with the characters than any major Hollywood motion picture I may have ever seen. This movie is special, the directing special, and the lead is not just special but sensational. WELL DONE.
