Solid, but dull This is fairly cheap, although parts do look well-shot. There are some day-for-night shots that are painfully bad, and of course the bear-action is bad, because they could not afford a bear, or a big render of one. That's fine, for what this is. The characters are interchangeable and quite boring, but nothing too horrendous. The scene with the essentially forced baptism might bring comfort to some, but that sat really poorly with me, as it is a violation-disguised-as-care and while I see how you could think of it differently, to me it screams of not care, but ethnocentricity, and carelessness. Overall not a bad movie, but one that will be forgotten quickly.

This is one of those movies I watched

This is one of those movies I watched and then turned off halfway through. The acting was passable, the script was slow and boring; I fast-forwarded through most scenes. I don't even know why I watched it. I just wanted to give it a chance. My expectations were low, but I didn't think the movie would be this bad. I didn't like it. It would only get a 3 out of 10.

Refreshingly realistic thriller/drama

The reviews here are fascinating as this movie truly separates us as movie buffs. My two cents are that this movie plays it very straight, which I grew to really appreciate and find to be very rare, especially in this genre. The characters weren't caricatures, they were believable. Not over the top good or evil or brave or dumb or whatever. Even some characters that started out "bad" changed as the story unfolded and those characters evolved based on the events happening. So refreshing. The "jerk" doesn't get his comeuppance (or simply killed), but instead tries his best in the difficult circumstances and likely changed his way of thinking afterwards. Growth; again, refreshing.This was billed as a horror movie on my server but it's not a horror movie. Docu-drama I suppose.Because this movie has elicited so many strong views one way or the other, I sincerely hope a lot of people watch so it encourages more movies that make us think and reflect and maybe even reconsider previously held beliefs.I also want to weigh in on the baptism scene. Again, it was authentic, and even if that girl was an atheist I struggle to believe that she wouldn't have appreciated that attempt to connect with another human being in such a desperate moment. It's hard to say how we'd respond in a situation like that, and likewise, it's hard to criticize someone else for how they respond. Let's give each other more grace.Very watchable. I cared about the characters. An incredible directorial debut.
