Because there is a aspect of the English language called "silent letters". it's found all through-out. I mean, do you ever hear about the British telling tales of the "Kh-nighs of The Round Table"? Or the absurd difficulty they have prouncing the simple "TH" sound. So many times I hear them say "free" instead of "three".
Can confirm, lots pronounce it "erbal"
I'm American and nobody I know pronounces it 'urbal'.
