For me, the movie is now kind of

For me, the movie is now kind of priceless. It's not any "better" in terms of narrative, but I'm just so grateful to have it. Yes, I'm romantizing it in light of Prince's passing but I think that's okay as long as a little perspective is maintained. As others have been saying, it works fairly well as a string of music videos all glued together with a vague plot thread. A real screenwriter might've worked wonders with the basic ideas - and made characters like the ones played by Mavis and Tevin more integral. "Melody Cool" is still a knockout sequence. The lapse into "musical" territory in certain spots (like "Love Machine") is jarring, but in a way enhances the slightly surreal atmosphere. Anyway, I liked to watch "Graffiti Bridge" every few years and I'm glad it's around now more than ever. Even though "Under the Cherry Moon" is Prince's true cinematic best - so misunderstood and so, so good. Though I haven't been able to bring myself to revisit that one just yet.

Even though the plot is wonky and is overshadowed by it's first film, it serves as a worthy sequel to hardcore Prince fans and those wanting to follow The Kid's story.

If u watch this movie as if it

if u watch this movie as if it was a filmed Broadway musical u will see that it is top notch in: performances, set design, lighting, costumes, and of course the music. missed all that? then watch it again. & if u missed the film’s message, repeat til u get it
