Plot summary

When a cavorting Hollywood writer is killed by the angry husband of a woman he was having an affair with, he comes back as a spirit in the form of a beautiful woman and moves in with his/her best friend as a base operation for enacting sweet revenge.

Slow-going mirthless comedy Goodbye Charlie may have captured

Slow-going mirthless comedy Goodbye Charlie may have captured 1960s Hollywood glitz in treating the unlikely subject of life after death but drags on practically until doomsday. Every scene is too long, especially the opener, with Debbie Reynolds, like a Mexican jumping bean emerging from her cocoon, ever so slowly realizing that her recently murdered self (Charlie) has morphed into a petite but tough femme fatale - which she punctuates with shrill relentless screaming. And that won't be the end of his/her morphing. Tony Curtis, at the height of his cuteness, portrays a friend to the - shall we say end? - a bookish writer coping with Charlie's strange new reality. Is this a fair and honest view of transmigration of the soul? It is, believe it or not, but you'll have to stay awake to the conclusion to see for yourself.
