A really smart, modernized retelling of the Frankenstein

A really smart, modernized retelling of the Frankenstein legend that moves well and the creature looks great. Certain things don't entirely wrok though (a little girl not wanting to make aphone call was just awkward) and while the actors/actresses are fine some of the smaller players not soo much.

Frankenstein Reborn is The Asylum's (a film company that specializes in blatant rip-offs of bigger and better horror/sci-fi movies) ode to the infamous Frankenstein story about a a demented neurosurgeon, Victor Franks, retelling his story to a psychologist on how he experimented on a human specimen to help cure him of his handicap, however, after the guy starts seeing Franks demented visions of killing certain people, he wants out of the project, to which Franks replies with a bullet in the chest. Now, Franks and his associate work to re-animate the dead corpse (the "It's alive. It's alive" reinterpretation is downright awful and hilarious). Soon, the new Frankenstein starts killing everyone in Frank's visions, not to mention a hooker here and a babysitter there (another awful and hilarious scene). Frankenstein Reborn sports a bevy of bad acting moments, chopped editing, HORRENDOUSLY mixed sound, and plenty of plotholes. I also wasn't a fan of the filmmakers attempts to make Dr. Franks and edgy and even more so controversial variation of the original character. Yeah, he's a junky and into kinky sex, but was that necessary (though I will say the lesbian stuff was nice). I wouldn't necessarily say this is The Asylum's worst film, Frankenstein Reborn does manage to shine in a couple of areas, particularly the use of gore, which is fairly consistent throughout, not to mention some surprisingly decent creature effects, and no CGI whatsoever (always a plus in my book). Still, may be only worth a rent if desperate.
