I was eleven years old when I saw "For Love of Ivy" for the first time. I was looking forward to seeing this because it was extremely rare to see a romance between two Black characters. I discovered that romance movies weren't really for me at that age. I was bored. One thing that stuck with me for years after seeing it: I could never understand why Sidney Poitier's character didn't jump at the chance to take a shower with Ivy when she suggested it. But now I understand. The man always has to stand back in the cold air while the woman is content under the nice hot shower. LOL.
