Plot summary

A wonderfully creative, offbeat script, at once threatening

A wonderfully creative, offbeat script, at once threatening, vulnerable, darkly humorous, and quietly unsettling. The panning shots were especially effective, giving the film a controlled, watchful quality. Music was central throughout, shifting eerily from old-fashioned crooning to more threatening tones. Bob Hoskins was remarkable, expressing a wide range of emotions while maintaining extraordinary restraint.
