Plot summary

Ah Lung is a pig farmer and a devoted Bruce Lee fan who is anxious to follow in Lee's footsteps, but only ridiculed for his attempts. He is sent to the city to earn a living working at his uncle's restaurant, but when he arrives, he finds a gang of thugs causing trouble in the restaurant. He takes the chance to prove himself and attacks the thugs, defeating them and saving the restaurant. Soon, he becomes a waiter, and discovers a plot by the same thugs to kidnap a woman he works with. Eventually, he defeats the thugs once again and saves the day.

Enter the Fat Dragon, despite its fun title

Enter the Fat Dragon, despite its fun title, is actually one of the weakest Sammo Hung classics, featuring only mild elements of what makes his movies so great. The action isn't quite as plentiful, the main character is a reckless and dumb at times, and the comedy, while certainly containing some cute jokes, just isn't as good as usual. It's sorta like watching a Monty Python sketch that has the general ingredients but just isn't as funny as it should be; Enter the Fat Dragon is the Kung-Fu Classic equivalent to that. It has a surprisingly thin plot that barely manages to keep everything together until the climax, and (not to sound all social-justice) it's really odd watching a Chinese actor with black-face talking in broken English/Jive. Then, to top it all off, while the actual action in the climax is entertaining, the movie makes one final mistake: The action itself is only against the main villain's henchmen; the final villain is dealt with separately, and not really in a way that's satisfying in its own. Oh, and one more thing: The opening of this movie actually showed some rather poor treatment of pigs; I actually felt awful watching this opening bit. Now, I've harped on about this movie very negatively, and ultimately I am overselling the problems - the movie has a decent enough pace and energy, what little plot the movie possesses is never convoluted or incoherent, and the fight choreography is about as good as you'd expect for a Sammo Hung movie. It's still a Kung-Fu Classic - it's just not a very good one.

E naquela época assisti a este filme, depois fiquei procurando e procurando e por décadas não havia encontrado e agora encontrei no Youtube. Uma comédia de Kung-fu, onde temos Sammo Hung sendo um grande fã de Bruce Lee, e imita os trejeitos de Bruce Lee e o estilo de luta. E vai morar com o tio em Hong Kong, mas a vida lá é do avesso. E Sammo se mete toda hora em uma situação, rolo, bagunça e atrapalhada. E toda hora tendo que usar seu Kung-Fu alá Bruce Lee. E no final ele tem enfrentar 3 grandes lutadores. Com boas coreografias, roteiro e enredo e lembrando 1978 onde o cinema de Hong Kong não era grande coisa e muito limitada. Roteiro e enredo inteligente e comico, divertido e com boas cenas de luta. Vale apena assistir? Sim para os amantes de Faixa Preta. Nota: 8 pela nostalgia 9.
