Olek is the only character you're gonna remember

The Family Portrait had the potential to be something intriguing, especially judging by its mysterious poster and the promise of multiple adaptations to draw from. Unfortunately, what starts as an enticing premise quickly collapses into a frustrating and flat experience. The film feels like it wants to lure you into a deeper story, but instead delivers a screenplay that is disjointed, underdeveloped, and ultimately unsatisfying.The biggest issue lies in the writing. The screenplay never finds its footing, bombarding the viewer with scenes that feel unnecessary and poorly connected. Rather than building tension or emotional investment, the story drags along without purpose. There's no clear momentum or payoff, leaving you more confused than intrigued. It feels like the film had ideas but no real plan on how to execute them into a cohesive narrative.Casting is another major weakness. While everyone deserves opportunities, the performances here simply don't rise to the level needed to carry a feature film. The actors feel miscast and unprepared for the material, which makes it hard to take the story seriously. Instead of grounding the film, the performances often highlight how artificial and forced the entire production feels. It's the kind of casting that might fit a student project or low-stakes indie experiment, but not something aiming for broader appeal.Direction doesn't help salvage things either. There's little sense of vision guiding the story forward. Scenes feel stitched together rather than thoughtfully crafted, and the film never establishes a tone that you can settle into.
