stopdeletingme, too late now. And I am not talking about Covid. It's busy. Built up. I had friends running bars/rest/guesthouse etc back in the early 90's and is was great. Mainly lowset buildings, lots of dirt roads, lot of thai's weren't used to farangs. Stayed in Khao Lak 2018 and drove down to Kata to have a Swedish meal (haven't lived in Sweden for 20+ yrs so I enjoy some old home flavors) and I just couldn't believe my eyes. Traffic jams, Patong was all grey and built up and I couldn't even find my way to Kata anymore, it was a labyrinth of roads. I haven't been myself but if I go back to Thailand it will probably be to Krabi. (at least as it comes to the Southern end). If I were you I would otherwise try see far North Vietnam.
