I would have liked to have seen less

I would have liked to have seen less focus on himself and more on his reasons for supporting an animal sanctuary. It felt too self absorbed.

A film about Warren Ellis that stars Femke den Haas

This documentary is ostensibly about the violinist with The Dirty Three and Nick Cave collaborator Warren Ellis. Touching on his life and his relationship with his parents and his journey to a career in music. It is also a film about Femke den Haas, an activist for animal rights whi has been at the sharp, bloody end of activism, rescuing animals from terrible conditions at the heart of the smuggling trade. She is one of humanity's good people. Just typing her name gives me goosebumps. In addition to her work with Dolphins she has run a sanctuary to rehabilitate trafficked wild animals in Indonesia. In 2018, she was introduced to Warren Ellis who offered to fund the sanctuary and buy them a decent chunk of land. Ellis is a humble guy and lets Femke take centre stage for a good portion of the film, which is intersperse with him making the soundtrack for it.It is bookended with scenes from Ellis's family life and his career with Cave and The Dirty Three.I don't want to write a reveal all review and am keeping it spoiler free. I want people to go and see this. Its incredibly good. Its on release as I write I've seen this film twice now. First time was at a small cinema and sadly the soundtrack was so loud it ruined the aural experience - but not the visual experience. It was incredibly moving. I shed a few tears. Today I saw it again, in a larger cinema on a big screen. It had an even deeper emotional impact on me. I cried again.

Everyone Should See This

Please show this to all children and help them to understand we have to stop this hell on earth for creatures that have just as much right to a normal life as we do. I would love to use the same excruciatingly cruel tactics on the people who hurt these animals. That is truly what should happen but never will.
