Tom Skerritt was excellent and his performance is at least 4 out of 5 stars but Rotten Tomatoes giving the film a 100%? It’s almost a Hallmark movie. Seriously 100%? Like this is Casablanca or something? No, it isn’t. Yes, it’s a good film and worth watching but the only reason I’m writing this is because Rotten Tomatoes gave it 100%. "The film was produced, directed and shot with an all female managed/directed team from Seattle and other U.S. cities." Is that the reason it received a 100% rating? Note the audience score isn’t even close to that.

This film has the perfect pace for someone

This film has the perfect pace for someone in this man’s predicament, who is at the end of life. Tom Skerritt’s character is more muted than most, yet holds our interest in his adventure. Filial struggles are present in a realistic way.

It's a simple story, but not predictable, well

It's a simple story, but not predictable, well told and very very well acted. I've been watching Tom Skerritt on screen since the 1970s (MASH, Alien, Top Gun, Contact) and this is far from a swan song but a high - the most deeply moving, raw and vulnerable performance of his career. He must be up for a good few nominations, although timing of the release may not help that. This movie is a slow burner with subtle performances, and you have to stick with it (which I suspect a few of the younger or megaplex reviewers on here didn't). You get pulled in and quickly care about and are invested in his story and how it will end. You will very likely shed a few tears over the journey. And all this against the backdrop of some beautiful locations.
