Questlove is an artist and this is art

Questlove is an artist and this is art. It treads the line between archival work and emotionally charged entertainment and doesn’t lose sight of either aspect at any point.

I thought this was an interesting documentary. I

I thought this was an interesting documentary. I grew up listening to Earth, Wind & Fire and learning about the group’s history, so there wasn’t much that surprised me. What I was hoping for was more insight into the other members of the band. Instead, the documentary focuses primarily on Maurice White. Since he was the founder, leader, and driving force behind Earth, Wind & Fire, that makes sense. However, I would have loved to learn more about the upbringing, backgrounds, and contributions of the other members as well. In many ways, the film could have been titled Maurice White: The Story of Earth, Wind & Fire. I also think the documentary would have benefited from featuring more longtime fans who experienced the band’s concerts and evolution firsthand, not just celebrities. Overall, it’s a solid documentary about Maurice White, but I was hoping for a more comprehensive story about Earth, Wind & Fire as a whole.
