Plot summary

Hector is a star basketball player for the College basketball team he plays for, the Leopards. His girlfriend, Olive, doesn't know whether to stay with him or leave him. And his friend, Gabriel, who may have dropped out from school and become a protestor, wants desperately not to get drafted for Vietnam.

Actor/director Jack Nicholson helms this story of a man caught in a war of his own Starring William Tepper, Bruce Dern, Karen Black, and Michael Margotta As a basketball player Hector plays for the college Leopards However his girlfriend, Olive is at odds to stay with him or leave him entirely To add to that his buddy Gabriel is somewhat of a madman being all anti-war He's also dropped out of school potentially becoming a protestor and refuses to be drafted But his state of mind isn't exactly reassuring Are we all just living in a diseased culture? If we don't go to war what is there to do professionally? To some maybe this is strictly a survival trip This was an oddity I'll admit but Nicholson still gets across the drawn cynicism of college life using basketball as an outlet This is for better or worse the world these characters as well as we inhabit Not only does the movie poke fun at college but the system itself and matrimony For a directorial debut Nicholson makes it viewable if not grand in the scheme of things

After watching Drive, He Said, you've got to

After watching Drive, He Said, you've got to feel grateful that Jack Nicholson chose to continue his career in acting instead of directing. Centered around two roommates at a Washington university, one a hyperactive radical and the other an unmotivated basketball star, Drive, He Said is probably the dullest film about revolution and the counter-culture that's ever graced the silver screen. The story is directionless, the dialogue is often embarrassing, the acting is ridiculous, and the editing is erratic, which can't come as a surprise since there are four editors listed in the credits. Bruce Dern does a decent job as the exasperated basketball coach and it's fun to look for a young Cindy Williams wandering around in the background, but, overall, there really isn't much to see here.
