After narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a large bunny rabbit that manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.
This version of the movie is weird because it adds some more scenes and changes some music, I always found the original theatrical cut to be way way way better. This Director's Cut version does explain a few things in more depth, but I would recommend watching the original cut first.
I've seen both versions of Donnie Darko plenty of times. The director's cut is the definitive edition. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Characters are fleshed out more in the DC, the story has much more space to breathe, there's better focus on the film's symbolism, etc. Frank the Bunny gives it 10/10.
Director's Cut is awful. Removes all the mystery and spells out everything for dummies. Plus Kelly replaced a lot of the music that made the theatrical cut special.
I saw it for the first time in 2016 and I knew I will watch it again sometime. I really like this movie. Besides the Parallel Universe thing and all that stuff, there's an interesting navigation through the waters of loneliness, death, critical thinking, and teenage love.
Incredible movie! Thank you so much YIFY. Highly recommend watching if you have an attention span, unlike some of the reviewers. Top 5 film of all time.
