Hard to believe its been thirty years! Originally intended to be an adaptation of Doctor Strange, rights issues forced Charles Band to change the script and combine it with an unproduced screenplay he had written. The result is a fun, entirely charming and extremely entertaining fantasy/adventure superhero movie. Doctor Mordrid is hands down my favorite Full Moon feature and, in my opinion, Jeffrey Combs best performance. I own both the remastered Blu-ray and HD Digital . I've probably watched this more times than any other Full Moon release. I really wish we'd gotten a sequel.

Corny low-budget Full Moon Features knock-off of Doctor

Corny low-budget Full Moon Features knock-off of Doctor Strange. Producer/co-director Charles Band originally had a deal with Marvel to produce a movie version of Doctor Strange in the same era as the famously awful low-budget Roger Corman 90s Fantastic Four movie adaptation. Jeffrey Combs (a Charles Band regular) plays the titular character, a modern-day wizard living in uptown Manhattan, who battles cosmic horrors (mostly Brian "COBRA" Thompson) unbeknownst to the mortals living around him. Sound familiar? Although clearly a ripoff, it's an endearing direct-to-video corny good time. Don't watch this film if you're looking for a Marvel style of film (unless it's the 70s live-action Amazing Spider-Man TV series your expecting), but watch this if you're into other Full Moon films like DOLLMAN, PUPPET MASTER, or OBLIVION, you'll dig this movie. On a related note, NICK FURY: AGENT OF SHIELD is my favorite of the corny 90s Marvel adaptations (BLADE is obviously the best [and not corny] adaptation), which I actually prefer over most of the big-budget polished MCU films.

Before the Multiverse, before the MCU, there was Mordrid. Long ago in the ancient time of 1992 a sorcerer from an alternate dimension of sorcerers, would be Earth's last defense against the forces of evil. He would be pretty bad at it tbh, but he's played by Jeffery Combs so it all works out. Bask in the glory of a superhero franchise that never was.
