Plot summary

On January 20, 1942, the Wannsee Conference takes place in Berlin, a meeting that had only one item on the agenda: The Final Solution, the organization of the systematic mass murder of eleven million European Jews.

I thought the accurate storytelling method would mean

I thought the accurate storytelling method would mean that the film would lack tension and progression but I was pleasantly surprised. Even arguments with relatively little disagreement become morbidly fascinating given the source material. The last section especially is haunting.

The Conference is an unsettling portrayal of evil

The Conference is an unsettling portrayal of evil, a compelling drama about momentous events that still resonate heavily decades later. In January, 1942 high ranking members of the German Reich meet by Wansee Lake to determine plans for the Final Solution. That is, their plans to extinguish the Jewish people. At this point Germany controlled much of Europe and had systematically been killing Jews. But they wanted to speed up the process of their horrific ambitions. SS, Gestapo and government officials meet to nail down plans. There is disagreement but essentially they all have the same end goals. This is a dialogue heavy film that takes place in one setting but never feels static. It's acted without fanfare but with exactitude. A film about momentous events is matched superbly by its execution.

Die Wannseekonferenz ist ein deutscher Fernsehfilm von Matti Geschonneck (Regie). Das Drehbuch schrieben Magnus Vattrodt und Paul Mommertz, die Handlung basiert auf einer gefunden Protokollabschrift. Der Anlass dieser Konferenz war die Besprechung der sogenannten Endlösung der Judenfrage. Ein bedrückendes Dokumentarspiel über die Strategen und Planer des Holocaust. Warlich ein „ruhiges, giftreiches, fesselndes Meisterwerk" das jeden Geschichtlich interessierten fesseln wird.
