Plot summary

In the fall of 1963, Anne is becoming a teenager. She lives in Paris with her mother and her older sister, Frédérique. They're just back from summer at the beach with their father. School starts. A turbulent year awaits them both.

Not sure if director/writer Kurys was going for

Not sure if director/writer Kurys was going for some Eric Rohmer-type feel here, but Rohmer it is not. There's moments of effervescence, menlancholy, and humor that work well. There's also a good bit of monotony, tedium, and one droopy, very sad girl. The school scenes are so mixed for me as to whethere Kurys was going more for reflecting such French girls' lives in such schools, or more for character pieces about the friends and their wacky, weak, even sociopathic teachers. Éléonore Klarwein is wonderful as that sad girl, so wanting to be older or always relevant. I was more impressed by her and the girls playing her two best friends than I was with Odile Michel as the sister or some of the adult actors. Still, there's a good bit to relate to here, along with some fine performances, the writing and direction in general. 3 stars

It's a good movie. Shows the life of young teenagers in France in a very sensitive way, and touching at times.

Cute and very funny movie. All of the

Cute and very funny movie. All of the performances were great. I am definitely going to watch this one again! I have a feeling it will be better the second time!
