TV contemporizes the Belgian detective and the result

TV contemporizes the Belgian detective and the result is far more agreeable than one would think. It's fairly well made and Jean Stapleton works well with Ustinov.

Enjoyable enough, Dead Man's Folly sees yet another

Enjoyable enough, Dead Man's Folly sees yet another Agatha Christie novel transferred to the Television, but definitely the best one yet.Unlike many of Ustinov's earlier Poirot vehicles, which were set in the 1930s, the made-for-TV Dead Man's Folly takes place in contemporary England. British stage star Constance Cummings make her last appearance as Ammy Folliot. Well written and greatly acted.

Absolutely charming and funny. Director Clive Donner's murder

Absolutely charming and funny. Director Clive Donner's murder mystery Dead Man's Folly (1986) is very funny and works well as an intriguing mystery. Donner's direction is playful and quickly paced. Writer Rod Browning's clever jokes and witty script adapt Agatha Christie's ingenious mystery is a scream. I like the fancy house setting and wonderful cast. The sharp editing is very carefully cut to show up just enough. Dead Man's Folly is a tight 90 minute mystery that never overstays its welcome. Cinematographer Curtis Clark beautifully captures Nasse House with a pretty pond, cute ferry, and lovely wide shots of all the marble. Composer John Addison's regal symphony makes for a lovely film score. Peter Ustinov is hilarious as Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. His fastidious nature and charming silliness is perfect for the shrewd sleuth. Jean Stapleton is funny as the crazy old lady Ariadne Oliver, who has set up a murder party for fun. Constance Cummings is suspicious as the selfish Amy Folliat. Tim Pigott-Smith is a mean jerk as the estate manor owner Sir George Stubbs. Jonathan Cecil is funny as the idiot Captain Arthur Hastings. Kenneth Cranham's curious and serious Inspector Bland is funny opposite Ustinov's pleasant Poirot. Susan Wooldridge is so pretty and charming as the elegant lady Amanda Brewis with her posh British manner. Jeff Yagher is amiable as the suspicious Eddie South. Nicollette Sheridan is gorgeous as the dumb blonde airhead Hattie Stubbs with her strange breathy way of talking. Ralph Arliss is sleazy as the serial cheater Michael Weyman. In short, Dead Man's Folly is the most fun of the three Peter Ustinov television Poirot movies. Although, Death on the Nile and Evil Under the Sun are still superior.
