Plot summary

A compelling personal journey with David Stratton, as he relates the fascinating development of our cinema history. David guides us from his boyhood cinema experience of Australia in England, where he saw the first images of this strange and exotic landscape via the medium of film, to his migration to Australia as a ‘ten pound pom’ in 1963 and onto his present day reflections on the iconic themes that run through our cinematic legacy. All of this reflects a passionate engagement in a uniquely Australian medium. Parallel and at the heart of the series is the story of an industry whose growing pains David has witnessed over a lifetime. Alongside David, the protagonists of this history are the giants of Australian cinema – both behind the camera and in front of it.

A fascinating look at a life in film

A fascinating look at a life in film but even more than that a look at Australian cinema through the eyes of David and many of the people who made those films.

Not the most immaculate documentary put together but

Not the most immaculate documentary put together but in my opinion a nice tribute to one of our greatest critics & his love affair for Australian Cinema. The film details two areas Stratton's Life & the films he believes that shaped our Nation. I found the film very fascinating but then again I am truly bias being an Aussie. A terrific visual essay of some of our greatest films & gives insight to all David Stratton had done for cinema culture Australia Wide.

I just saw this film at The Randwick Ritz and the crowd clapped at the end. I loved the film. It was like walking down Memory lane holding David's hand. I loved that he really gets" The Castle" . Kay
