Plot summary

Coming 50 years after the release of Space Oddity, the 90-minute film explores the Bowie before Ziggy Stardust, following the period from 1966 when he changed his name from David Jones to Bowie. It includes footage from the BBC Archives including footage of a BBC audition in 1965 of David Bowie and the Lower Third, which included a performance of Chim-Chim-Cheree and Baby That's A Promise.

The weakest effort in Whately's trilogy of Bowie

The weakest effort in Whately's trilogy of Bowie documentaries by some distance. Perhaps because there is little that's new to present to the viewer or perhaps because by it's nature of focusing on Bowie's failures when trying to get started it's the subject matter of the least interest. At the end of the day I love Bowie and I was bored at times, and felt it was a good half an hour too long.

Easy watch on the Bowie climb to fame

This documentary is an easy look back into the life and artistic climb of David Bowie to the level of international fame.

It is informative without giving you too much information. Plus it is interesting in how it shows David Bowie and his focused artistic drive on is music dreams and how he made it all come true.

His personal life is left in the shadows and not dwelled upon.
