Plot summary

In the aftermath of the Second World War, Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor at Auschwitz, escapes to South America to rebuild his life in hiding. Through the eyes of his son who finds him again, Mengele is confronted with a past he can no longer ignore. From Buenos Aires to Paraguay via Brazil, the man who became known as “The Angel of Death” will organize his methodical disappearance to avoid any form of trial.

The film follows Mengele’s life in hiding across Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil as he evades justice under false identities.....Structured in fragmented chapters named after his aliases, the non-linear script explores memory, guilt, and moral absence rather than suspense....Its stark visual style — shifting between black-and-white exile and rare color in Auschwitz — underscores the fracture between past and present.....While the restrained direction avoids melodrama, the slow pacing and lack of a dramatic climax may feel emotionally distant....A cold, thought-provoking meditation on justice denied and evil unpunished....

The story would have been better served if

The story would have been better served if told in chronological order. That doesn't change the fact that Director Serebrennikov has made a superb film. August Diehl is terrific and chilling at the same time, and filming in black and white was an inspired choice. I have no idea how historically accurate the movie is, I can only hope that Mengele's postwar life was as miserable as it's depicted here.

Absolutely unexpected and stunning

Got a chance to watch it in Leipzig on a Kinofestival earlier than official release.Wonderful operator work, strong vibe, unreal attention to details of his biography. Sex scenes are captivating, the play really has a soul.I wasn't expecting much, since I never saw someone replicating his biography so accurate in a movie, but they did it. It's insane, it's high quality, it a has unique perspective on him, it's a masterpiece, one of the best movies I ever seen, left alone based on biography of Josef Mengele.Absolutely huge props to creators. It was an incredible experience.
