Plot summary

Abahachi, the Apache chief, and his white blood brother Ranger fight tirelessly for peace and justice - but a new, up-and-coming gang is making life particularly difficult for them! They lure Abahachi and Ranger into a trap in order to get their hands on the legendary “Canoe of Manitou”.

A Timely and Well-Adapted Comedy Seagull

No pun intended. The movie deals well with biases about it and its setting. It's a sequel that stands the test of time, however it is what it is and that's probably what's so good about it - weather you like it or not. 7/10 because it deserves to be watched, even if critics about its prequel and how it handled certain topics might speak against watching it nowadays.

Lots of Jokes, Little Substance

Everyone was talking about Bully's new film Das Kanu des Manitu. The big question, of course, was whether it could live up to Der Schuh des Manitu from 2001-and whether that kind of humor still works today or might now feel too extreme. Honestly, I didn't really care about that debate. I was simply hoping the film would bring a bit more substance. Not a dead-serious story, but at least more depth than the first one.What's immediately noticeable is that almost every single line contains some kind of gag. Even though many of them didn't really hit my sense of humor, after about twenty minutes I still found myself smiling from time to time. Not because the jokes were clever, but because they became so incredibly dumb that the sheer volume of punchlines somehow made it funny again. For the record, I didn't find the first film particularly funny back then either-but at least it felt fresh and new.Unfortunately, the story is once again pretty weak, and the humor feels very much of its time-almost too safe and tame for my taste. A bit more roughness and courage wouldn't have hurt, especially since this is supposed to be a comedy where you're actually allowed to laugh out loud. To me, the whole thing feels more like a typical 8:15 p.m. TV movie on ProSieben than a film worth seeing in a cinema. That's why I can only give it 5 out of 10.Ironically, the end credits song is exactly as crude and unapologetic-with jokes about vegans and similar targets-as I would've liked the film itself to be. The song was produced by Stefan Raab, which makes its tone and content pretty unsurprising. Still, it doesn't really fit the movie-just like the movie itself never quite decides what it wants to be.

Wrapped in Nostalgia, Empty Inside

This sequel sadly fails to live up to the wit and charm of its predecessor. The story feels superficial and drags along without real highlights, while the humor often comes across as dull and uninspired. What once gave the original its edge - controversial jokes and a tongue-in-cheek political incorrectness - has been watered down or left out entirely. The result is a film that feels like a pale shell of what it could have been, wrapped nicely on the outside but empty on the inside. For those who loved the first part, the disappointment is inevitable, since it neither builds on its strengths nor finds a new identity of its own. 3/10, because sometimes even nostalgia cannot justify sitting through it.
