Plot summary

Thirty-something Isabelle spends her time going from her tiny, solitary West Side apartment to that of her grandmother on the Lower East Side. While her grandmother plots to find her a romantic match, Isabelle is courted by a married, worldly author, Anton, yet can't seem to shake the down-to-earth appeal of Sam, a pickle vendor.

Quirky, culturally rich romantic comedy with heartfelt performances

Quirky, culturally rich romantic comedy with heartfelt performances and great NYC locations. There is an authenticity in Susan Sandler's autobiographical screenplay that is hard to find in most rom coms. Peter Riegert's pickle man steals the show with cool, unassuming self confidence.

Not a lot new here; a single woman

Not a lot new here; a single woman of a certain age with a history of making bad choices finally sees the light. The scenes are short and episodic, a lot like Allen's "Hannah and Her Sisters" a couple of years earlier but without the depth. Running time is 96 minutes but I skimmed through it in half the time without missing anything. The director does pull an ugly duckling transformation on our protagonist as the film progresses. I rate it a big, fat, Meh!

Culturally interesting and precious...love the grandma...The main character as a little self-absorbed. It's boring for me that a guy simply sees a girl and knows she's the one...yeah, she's beautiful...but she was a bit of a douche. It had its cute quirky moments. Glad I got it out of the way, won't watch again. At the best- cute, not bad.
