Plot summary

Charters and Caldicott are touring the Middle East. After visiting Saudi Arabia they find themselves in Bagdad where they are mistaken by a group of German spies for the messengers who are to carry a song record by beautiful singer La Palermo which contains secret instructions of the German Intelligence. Realizing their error, the German spies follow Charters and Caldicott to Istanbul and Budapest, trying to eliminate them and retrieve the record.

A disappointing spinoff including the promising "Charters and

A disappointing spinoff including the promising "Charters and Caldicott" characters from Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes". Filled with British banter and pointless song and dance numbers, "Crook's Tour" is a poor attempt to recycle crowd favorite characters in an uninteresting plot. Every simple trick is used, even the music montage/traveling by a line on the map scene. In the end this is a film to watch in context of "The Lady Vanishes", seeing how it sure wasn't a film I watched for enjoyment.

Included as a bonus feature in "The Lady

Included as a bonus feature in "The Lady Vanishes" Criterion Collection release, this takes its two bumbling comic relief characters and takes them on another espionage adventure, but while the comedic concept is all right, the plot holes and ending totally drive home how ridiculous it all is.
