Plot summary

Conan is commissioned by the evil queen Taramis to safely escort a teen princess and her powerful bodyguard to a far away castle to retrieve the magic Horn of Dagoth. Unknown to Conan, the queen plans to sacrifice the princess when she returns and inherit her kingdom after the bodyguard kills Conan. The queen's plans fail to take into consideration Conan's strength and cunning and the abilities of his sidekicks: the eccentric wizard Akiro, the warrior woman Zula, and the inept Malak. Together the hero and his allies must defeat both mortal and supernatural foes in this voyage to sword-and-sorcery land.

While both Conan the Barbarian (1982) and Conan

While both Conan the Barbarian (1982) and Conan the Destroyer (1984) share the same legendary character, the 1982 film stands far above in terms of tone, atmosphere, and overall impact. It feels more grounded, intense, and iconic, which makes it the definitive Conan experience for me. In comparison, Conan the Destroyer takes a more lighthearted, adventure-focused approach. While that makes it more accessible, it also reduces the grit and weight that made the first film so memorable. It never quite reaches the same level of immersion or intensity. Overall, I still enjoy Conan the Destroyer for what it is, but it doesn't surpass its predecessor. It’s a decent fantasy sequel, just lacking the raw power of the original. I’d give it a 5/10.
